Celebrant for Funerals and Celebrations of Life services
Why choose a Celebrant? The beauty of a celebrant-led service lies in its flexibility. The service can include religious elements, prayers, and mentions of God, or not at all, it's entirely up to you. Every service is conducted with the utmost respect for various beliefs, genders, cultures, and lifestyles. It can follow a traditional format or take a completely unique approach, tailored to reflect the life and values of the individual being honored.

Funerals in SpainIn Spain, funerals are typically held within three days of a person’s passing. My role is to make this challenging time easier for families by guiding them through the process. Whether they wish to be deeply involved or prefer a more hands-off approach, I tailor my support to their needs, ensuring the service is created with care and within the necessary time frame.

What is a Celebrant? As a celebrant, I work closely with families to create unique and personal services that honour and reflect the life of their loved one. These services celebrate their legacy and capture the essence of who they were. I also welcome contributions from family and friends through speeches - poems - readings - music - photographs and any other ideas the family may want to incorporate into the service, to ensure that it feels truly personal and inclusive.

Funeral or Celebration of Life?
|
To me, there is little distinction between a funeral and a Celebration of Life—both are opportunities to reflect on and celebrate a life. While every loss is painful, some circumstances call for a more solemn, reflective service, while others may lend themselves to a more uplifting celebration. I work with families to strike the right balance between honouring the sorrow of loss and celebrating the joy of life.
If a direct cremation without a funeral service has been chosen, this creates a wonderful opportunity to hold a Celebration of Life with your loved one’s ashes at a location that possibly holds special meaning such as their favourite golf club, restaurant or the comfort of your own garden. Working with me this allows us to create a deeply personal and memorable tribute. It also offers the chance for a lighter, more relaxed atmosphere compared to a traditional chapel service, making it a more enjoyable and uplifting experience for friends and family to come together and celebrate a life well-lived. |
What to Expect
I always recommend meeting in person, ideally as soon as possible, with the family or friends organizing the ceremony. This meeting usually lasts an hour to an hour and a half, and it’s where I gather all the important details about the person who has passed. This ensures that I can craft a service that is both personal and meaningful.
I collaborate with all funeral directors and funeral services. If you’ve already chosen a funeral director, you can request my services in addition, and I will work seamlessly with them. Though I am fluent in Spanish, I only conduct services in English. I’m originally from just outside London and have lived in Spain for over 35 years—where does the time go!

The Ashes
Often, after a cremation, families are left wondering what to do with their loved one's ashes.
This provides a wonderful opportunity for us to work together again, this time to plan a thoughtful
and heartfelt scattering of the ashes, at a pace that allows for deeper reflection.

Planning Your Own Service
For those who wish to plan their own funeral or Celebration of Life, I can offer support and guidance. Many find comfort in organizing their own service, and it’s a deeply rewarding process to be a part of.
